While all Smart Alec tutors are subject to our rigorous interview process (including a background check), it’s important to remember that Smart Alec tutors are independent agents. Ultimately, you are responsible for choosing the right tutor for your needs, verifying their credentials and managing your lessons and learning experience.
Here are some tips to help you have a safe and productive tutoring experience with our fantastic Smart Alec tutors.
An individual over the age of 18 should always be present for tutoring sessions with a minor. Smart Alec tutors are instructed never to work with a student behind a closed door or out of view of an adult supervisor.
Read the student feedback on a tutor’s profile and ask a tutor for a few student references in advance of your first session.
Hold your first face-to-face meeting with a tutor in a public place such as a coffee shop or a library so you can get to know a tutor better before inviting them into your home. You should also tell a friend or family member where you’re going and when you plan to meet.
If any interaction with a tutor seems odd, please cease communication with that individual immediately and notify Smart Alec at firstname.lastname@example.org.
